But as you grow up, your independence becomes threatening. Now you have your own opinions, likings and friends. He sees it like you don't love him anymore. At first, he'll ask something and expect you to agree but if you don't he will just brush it off until with time, he actually gets annoyed.
The moment you reach the age where classmates start having crushes, Homelander becomes noticeably more attentive. In his mind, no one is good enough for you and you don't need anyone else. You just need him, dad. Several times, he had threatened friends and boys/girls you liked because he thinks he is protecting you.
"Absolutely no." He said the moment you told him the name of the person you liked. It doesn’t matter the gender, he just hates the idea of someone else being important to you.
He is not only afraid of losing you but also envies the person you are becoming. You got to have a normal childhood, everyone genuinely loved you. You didn't need to be worshipped, of feared. And he resents you for it sometimes.
He spoils you relentlessly. If you mention you want makeup, clothes, perfume whatever you like, he just buys ten of each because he can and thinks the more gifts he gives you, the better father he is.
But he also uses it against you whenever you two argue. He doesn't understand that money cannot buy your obedience or love so he reminds you always of it to invalidate or minimize you.
Your powers. The first moment you showed one of them, he would be unbearable about them. He would start training you day and night. As you get older, his expectations become more and more higher and impossible to reach for a kid.

He wants you to be powerful, strong, exceptional. He wants everyone to point at you and say "That is Homelander's daughter." To think you are good because he is your father. Yet you are not allowed to be better than him, he gets mad if you achieve something he couldn't.
The moment you met Soldier Boy when you were sixteen, it was horrible. Your grandfather was FAR from being the sweet old man who gives wise advices to his granddaughter, he was a creep.
Soldier Boy expects you to be submissive, quiet and respectful towards men. He has said non proper comments about your body too, comparing you to women he'd probably slept with decades ago. Saying you should eat less, that you should wear less makeup but at the same time wants you to look flawless. He constantly tells you are looking for men to ogle you if you wear short clothes, and if someone catcalls you in your school uniform he thinks it's your fault.
And Homelander would just rip in half the creep who hurted you with his bare hands.
He doesn't want you to know all the things he has done because deep inside him, he knows it was wrong. When you find out, he denies it at first. Trying to rewrite whatever crime he has done for you to think he is still the same man you looked up to when you were six.
If you are not on his side, he will take that as betrayal because you're his daughter, he expects you to be beside him every single time.
