Aaaah I'm so glad to see your stuff again!! ^o^ please, as a beginning artist may I ask you, how did you come across to learning and accepting your current style (which I'm totally in love with by the way!) after your break?
Hi! Thank you for liking my current style! Well, I went on a hiatus mostly because I wanted to try making some original content for myself, and I reckon that to building up your own style - spending a generous amount of time on doing original work would be one of the best ways.
Didn’t say drawing fanwork is anything harmful, on the contrary, just draw what you love and develop the style on your own pace. But me? Well I started drawing with fanart, that’s why my style always depended heavily on the original authors, I kinda felt stressed for that haha! So I took my chance for 2016, had a break, use it to draw OCs (which you can see lol, they are all OCs from one year making). I didn’t have to draw them so ‘a specific fandom’ could recognize the characters, no, I drew them for myself, so no stress, no need to imitate the artist’s style! And thus I slowly started to develop this current one, just to serve for my OCs drawing purposes.
One more thing is, learn the fundamentals, I registered in two short-term art courses, one is design sketching and one is about digital painting. Each course only took me two months (cuz it’s like a workshop) but I learned so much about perspective, shapes, lighting stuff,.. they are really important. Well, sometimes when trying to mimic a mangaka’s already stylized works, you won’t be able to learn the fundamentals yourself, in fact, mimicking a style is just taking a shortcut, and at the end of the day we won’t learn as much. Also, make good friend with real-life references, draw from what you see, than what you /think/ it would look like, trust me, references do make a huge difference <3
Here are some project works I did during the courses (I last took them in November 2016 and April 2017, then I decided to have a break + work on my RPG project, will come back later on next year ^_^)
