Cover of Zokkon magazine, Volume 1, December 1993 featuring BCG. Zokkon was a short lived magazine focusing on the early 1990′s fad of “sexy idols”. BCG, an abbreviation of Body Conscious Girls, were created as a sexy idol unit to capitalise on the body conscious (or bodycon) fashion trend of the early 1990′s.
The 11 member unit was chosen from auditions at the nightclub Juliana's Tokyo which was famous for its dance platforms (known as otachidai), on which office ladies dressed in bodycon clothes danced for patrons. The group released one single, a mini album and two video tapes in 1993 before evolving into a four member unit called BCG Core and eventually disbanding.
