It would be a lie to say that his words didn’t catch her off guard - in fact, it was obvious going by the look on her face. As she quickly tried to control her expression, she took a step away from him, hoping that her hood helped to hide the sudden redness in her cheeks.

miscellaneous angst starters

His words had her lifting a single brow, the only change in her calm expression. Though she may have been an empath, and usually had a way of reading people rather well, he was shrouded in mystery. Perhaps he was more perceptive than she had given him credit for; that, or her own mask was slipping. 

Either way, she would dance around the subject. “You say that as if you know me in the first place.”

The question she had to ask herself in the moment was who posed a bigger threat? 

Red X certainly wasn’t on her team, but he was a thief, not a villain. And if him being there meant she had backup against Slade’s robot commandos, then so be it. Even outnumbered, they held their own, though she was sure not to let her guard down. 

She saw it coming when she noticed one of the bots had got in behind him unnoticed, and almost without thinking she moved to push him out of the way, throwing up a shield of magic right as it attacked. 

“Guess it’s a good thing I’m here, isn’t it?”
