Two Moments from Andor 1x12, “Rix Road”
The Clem Flashback
Specifically, “before Maarva finds out we’ve been doing this in the house.”
Is it possible that this is just to remind us who Clem is after half a season’s worth of episodes? Yeah, maybe. But it’s also so reflective of what the show demonstrates in just a handful of scenes and lines—the different approaches that Clem and Maarva had to young Kassa/Cassian. Clem was reluctant to take Kassa off Kenari, and not just for self-preservation reasons—“he has people here,” Clem says.
We don’t have a sense of when the flashback occurs, except that it obviously occurs before Clem’s death, but what struck me is that Clem—unlike everyone on Ferrix—refers to Maarva as “Maarva” and not “your mother.” Again, Clem is Maarva’s husband, and this isn’t out of place at all—why would Clem say “your mother”? But he could. It’s a distancing thing, but not for lack of warmth.
To me, it’s a sign of respect—respect for Kassa, letting him decide and define the relationship he has with Clem and Maarva, recognizing and acknowledging that Cassian of Fest/Ferrix is and will always be Kassa of Kenari. Cassian does call Maarva “mom,” though we don’t know when that starts, and I have to think that it happened because he didn’t have to, wasn’t pushed to.
We know how Maarva felt about Cassian looking for his sister. I think we can intuit that Clem might have felt differently.
The “Stone and Sky” Chant
Specifically, that when they cut to B2-EMO, his little Binary warbles are chanting the same rhythm. He’s part of the neighborhood, the city, the culture, the people. He’s one of them, and it’s not just Brasso being stand-up. It’s a norm, it’s expected.
I will ride or die for square boi and so will the Ferrix community.
took me a while to finally try animation in procreate but this lil’ guy inspired me to play around today so - have a Bee! 😚✨
❤️
"i'm counting on you"
"you always say that"
"and you always come through"
stop making me cry at minor droid characters. just stop it.
i dearly wish this show weren't over, and i pray to whatever deities are up there that it ends with this season.
