Ok idk if this is your department but whats up w animal earwax? Can i clean my cats ears? How do indoor pets ears get so dang d i r t y???

it just happens like with people, some cats are more sebaceous than others. pet stores sell ear cleaner but at home you can use mineral oil or baby oil. just put some on a qtip & clean up any visible dirt that you see within the outer ear, don’t go digging IN the ear where you can’t see bc you can do damage or perforate the tympanic membrane. this weird russian woman has a good video (i don’t know if this will embed correctly but she starts the cleaning part at 2:06)

but if the ear is REALLY dirty with like a lot of black stuff it’s more likely to be ear mites which needs to be treated by a vet. it could also be an ear infection; if there is any redness or irritation in the ear, or if the cat seems painful when you touch her ears, or if they are very warm to the touch, then it’s better to avoid poking around in there bc if it’s infected you can do more damage & hurt your kitty. if you’re going to the vet anytime soon you can also ask them to demonstrate how to clean a cat’s ears! there are more thorough ways to do it but with just a video this is the way i’m comfortable explaining bc if i’m not there in person to show a hands-on demonstration of how deep in the ear to go then it can be unsafe, & also you’d really rather do that with actual ear cleaner not baby oil bc that’s a damn mess.
