BabyChakra acquires Tinystep to build India's largest mother-baby platform

Parenting platform BabyChakra said it has acquired Tinystep, one of India's strongest regional parenting networks, to further strengthen its growth across the country. With this acquisition, BabyChakra expands its regional footprint by providing in-depth access to a robust network of parents across 9 languages. BabyChakra targets to reach 75 million moms by the end of 2022. The companies did not reveal the value of the transaction.

“The regional reach of Tinystep’s digital & social assets will help BabyChakra reach out to newer user bases with deeper, more personalized care,” said Naiyya Saggi, co-founder, Good Glamm Group and founder and CEO, BabyChakra. “This is a collaboration that will accelerate our vision of being a trusted care partner to every mom and child in India.”

Since its inception in 2015, Bengaluru-based healthcare and parenting network Tinystep has provided information, advice across a wide network of parents. It has India’s largest parenting social follower base of 5 million followers engaging in 9 different languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bangla, Tamil, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam, Telugu and Punjabi.

“We started Tinystep with the vision of leveraging community and content to drive commerce,” said Suhail Abidi, founder, Tinystep. “BabyChakra is the perfect place to take this vision forward, helping Tinystep increase its reach and impact, and I am happy that Tinystep has found a great new home.”

Johnsons and Johnsons! I am sure all of us must have heard this name in our homes. It is one of the oldest baby brands in India. No wonder that still today, a baby who is chubby and happy is referred to as “Johnsons baby”. Recently, I got an opportunity to attend the 125 years celebration of this iconic brand at its Mulund plant in Mumbai.

I represented BabyChakra community at the event. For those of you who don’t know, BabyChakra is India’s largest parenting community and a discovery platform that connects mothers and dads to the best services and products in the city. It is based on genuine recommendations from mothers, has a distinguished panel of experts to guide content and believes in strong social integration.

Since I live in Lucknow, Johnsons and Johnsons made the entire arrangement for me and made sure that I was taken care of at every point during my whole stay and travel.

DAY 1:  Arrival in Mumbai on 2nd May 2018

Since I have my relatives in Delhi, they picked me up from the airport and I stayed with them on the 2nd. But all the other moms who were traveling from other parts of the country were provided accommodation in Hotel Renaissance, Powai. As I heard from them, the Johnsons team left no stone unturned in making their stay nice and comfortable. At night, they had planned for high tea, dinner, and an interactive session.

DAY 2 : The day of the event

This was the day of the event. I reached the Johnsons plant in Mulund at 8:30 am as the vent was to start from 9 am. It is a huge installation with lots of greenery. The premises were spick and span and there was a separate entrance created especially for the moms who were visiting. Down the whole passage were pictures and posters marking the journey of the iconic brand. We were guided by a Johnsons representative who took us through the 125-years walk while enumerating the highlights of all these years.

Then we were guided to the registration counter where we all were given our personalized ID cards and a Johnsons bag with Lab coat and safety goggles. There was also a photo drop adjacent to the counter with lots of props. We clicked many memorable pictures there and made some really cool boomerang videos!! After the registration, we were taken to a gigantic hall with some really beautiful decorations in the colors of Johnsons i.e. pink and blue. We were briefed about how the day will proceed.

The first part of the day was to be spent having a look around the plant and understanding how the baby products manufactured in Johnsons go through stringent safety procedures. We all wore our lab coats and were divided into groups. It was a “back-to-the-school” moment for me as I remembered how I used to wear a similar lab coat during my science practical. some really astonishing facts about the manufacturing processes. We came to know that about 80% of the research that goes into making baby products is advanced by Johnsons.

We also had a look inside the facility where the Johnsons baby powder is made. The whole section was like a nostalgia because of the smell of the baby powder which we all very well recognized. We were also briefed about

the five-step stringent safety procedure that goes into the manufacturing of baby-safe products. I came to know a lot of new things which are really important to know as a mother like how ‘clinically tested’ is different from ‘clinically proven’? what is the correct way of applying powder to a newborn? are products that claim to be natural, really natural?

After the Mulund walk, we were taken back to the hall where we were served a sumptuous lunch. Mothers were also given an opportunity to make their own top-to-toe wash. It was really exciting. After lunch, we had a session where experts from the neo-natal care industry showed how to resuscitate a newborn immediately after birth if the child is not breathing

and crying. We had a doll to mimic the steps which Dr. Rahul showed to us. There was also a panel discussion about neo-natal care where mothers were free to ask all their doubts.

Lastly, we had a “ask Johnsons” session where we had the liberty to ask any or everything related to Johnsons. It was the most interactive session and I was really impressed by the passion with which our questions were answered. It really meant that they care a lot about babies and put their heart and soul into their products. We were also served tea and snacks in the

meanwhile. I also won a hamper for “asking” a hard question. And I thought only “answering” tough questions received accolades!! This was the last session of the evening after which we all climbed on to the stage for a group photo and boomerang. All the mothers who visited received a tote bag filled with Johnsons goodies.

We were also given a sweet token of love from BabyChakra which really overwhelmed me. Their team is very helpful and sweet, no wonder

Day 3: I returned to Lucknow with a bag full of goodies and a heart full of memories.

It was a really fabulous experience to be a part of such a big milestone in the journey of a well-established brand like Johnsons. I am also very thankful to the Babychakra team for giving me this wonderful opportunity. I wish Johsnons and BabyChakra all the best for their future and may they see stupendous growth (both in love and revenue!).
