Some Explanations For Prompts
So instead of explaining some of the prompts in the posts themselves, I’m gonna explain them in a single post for an easy reference.
This is a junk journaling type page. Use any materials you like to create a page on the prompted theme(or any theme you like really). Materials can include, and are certainly not limited to, paper, washi tape, stickers, paint, lace, string, sprays, paint, and gems.
Without lifting your pencil, pen, brush, etc, try to draw the prompt with just one line.
Take 5-10 seconds to draw the prompt. Try to fill the page with these short drawings. See how many you can do in 60 seconds. Gesture drawings are more about capturing the motion and action of the subjects rather than a detailed drawing. They’re a great warm up and can help with composition and figure drawing(particularly actiony poses).
Hatch marks are lines made in a single direction(though I’ll also include cross-hatching in this prompt description, which is more like a grid instead of just single direction lines). Instead of using lines to define your drawing, try focusing on the light and see if you can make a drawing using just hatching or cross-hatching.
Literally just scribble on the page. Don’t worry about making any sort of shapes, just let your pen or pencil go wild. Have fun with it. One day, maybe just use straight lines to scribble, another day do some curly lines all over the place. It doesn’t have to be neat, and honestly shouldn’t be. Try to keep it loose, you don’t want to fill so much of the page that so many lines aren’t defined. Once you’ve got a good amount of scribbles, try to find creative ways to find the objects in the prompt. Go ahead and add lines to define the shapes further.
