One of my best days in Melbourne was when I visited the @puffingbillyrailway in the Dandenong area. The steam train is pretty good value for a full day out and it's easy to reach by public transport. It's a good time to go now, As Autumn is approaching the the surrounding forrests start to change colour. Head to Belgrave and the Puffing Billy station is just next door.
