Bernard Barton and his younger brother Clint both grew up to become professional marksmen. While Clint joined SHIELD, going on to become one of its top assassins and a future Avenger; Barney joined the US Army, and eventually worked his way into the FBI Academy in Quanitico.

Exceeding very well in undercover and special ops missions, he volunteered for the Bureau's own super soldier program. His eyes were replaced by Backscatter X-Ray Mk2 implants, giving him super human sight and hand eye coordination.

While his younger brother, now known as Hawkeye became world famous for his ability with a bow and arrow, Barney became one of the top tier specialist agents. His superhuman hand-eye reflexes with knives, conventional firearms, and bows, both cross and traditional, earned him the nickname Trickshot.

He continued his work into Anti-Terrorist and Black Ops missions, becoming one of the FBI's best assassins. Often working in tandem with the CIA against more American terrorist cells
