College Coronavirus Conundrum
wow work made me feel old today!
I had this odd moment today at work where I realized I was getting old. It's intern season again and although I don't feel old, there are major differences between how I operate on a day to day basis and how some of the super stars of tomorrow do.
I was reminded today that people born today are not tech savvy - they are tech dependent.
I laughed knowingly with the other people in the room who were the "nerds" on live journal and opendiary... and even though people didn't really know what IRC was all about (internet relay chat... which came before AIM and yahoo messenger... and communicator... *sigh*)
Thing change so fast.
I'm only 29... and so many things have already become obsolete in my lifetime.
Today it made me reflect a bit and question what on this earth has true permanence and where are my priorities.
Also, it means I've been doing the same type of work for 7 years... is this it forever? I'm getting older. If I'm going back to school or switching careers ever... i ought to get on it soon.
additionally, now more than ever its important to live up to Mom's mantra "life long learning is the key to life".
and finally, to continue the conversation from this weekend, if i could pick any super power to have... i think it'd have to be time stop. the ability to freeze everyone else, put the world on pause and just sit and catch up. read a novel and not lose any time. procrastinate here, then finish my to-do list without getting further behind. better than invisibility, complete control of emotions, flying+gps, telekinesis. etc.
Money...college...college...money? $%@#(*&@!#
First off, I wish college was a right, not a privilege. Based on how friggin' expensive school is, it sure seems like only the rich people can have it (and to an extent, the poor people, if they apply for a bunch of scholarships and grants). But middle school, basically screwed. I have a dad as a high school teacher, and a mom as an Intensive Care nurse...sorry, we don't make THAT much money. I'm smart, I would like to continue to have a successful career, I love learning about things that I WANT to learn about, and I'm passionate about what I do - why can't I get the same opportunity to continue my education as Prince William over there? So...the school year is coming up, I have loans coming out of my ASS right now, stressing out...I guess that's what happens with college :(
