Curious that Cory says he was told in advance about the freezing, but I wish he’d been more SPECIFIC! I wanna know more details about WHEN they had that planned as the nygmobblepot S03 ending, damn it! From the START? Mid-season? WHEN??? (considering the second docks scene was clearly designed to mirror the first... there’s actually a good chance the freezing might have been planned ALL ALONG, which I actually haven’t been giving them much credit for... the frozen butterfly certainly seemed too convenient not to be intentional foreshadowing, but I do wonder if there were other things prior to that that may have hinted at when we were heading...).

Funny that Cory basically didn’t have anything to say about this whole supposed ‘family’ thing with Ed and Grundy and Lee, since he hasn’t filmed that yet and, it seems, not even read any scripts? :p Still not sure how to feel about that...

...certainly didn’t appreciate the interviewer asking if the relationship would be romantic - UGH! MAN I HOPE NOT! That idea hadn’t even crossed my mind! Pls interviewer, characters of opposite genders can exist in a plot WITHOUT romance, you know... (and Lee really REALLY needs to get a plot that ISN’T romance focused)

Interesting that Cory was talking about Lee as ‘dark!Lee,’ which was a version of the character I actually thought was done at this point...

I just... I got nothing... mostly because I just can’t see a direction for Lee’s character at all... why would she even return to Gotham? If Ed is having cognitive problems I can see her being someone who could help out with that maybe, but that’s hardly enough of something that would prompt her to come back to a city that has literally nothing for her at this point, and how would she know of Ed’s predicament in any case? No, she must stumble upon him in distress and end up helping and then sticking around, but I just keep getting stuck on WHY IS SHE BACK IN GOTHAM IN THE FIRST PLACE?  

Ah well, we’ll see!

writer's game: 5, 30, and 13!

5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most.

Robert Jordan (and later GRRM), since I grew up reading Wheel of Time. This is totally why I get obsessed with foreshadowing, tying threads together, etc. and write very long pieces overall. Stephen King, for actual writing style. (Spare prose with occasional whallops to emphasize this is important.) And Michael Crichton, for providing lots of technical detail that justifies the existence of a genre fiction-worthy plot element in what is otherwise the normal world.

13. How do you deal with writers block?

Two ways. One, commutes are great times to think. (And fortunately, I’m in LA.) Needing to focus on driving keeps me from obsessing so much that I lock up, and so I’ll get those little subconscious connections that are oh-so-helpful. Two, I’m not a total architect, but I’ve increasingly become one. I don’t commit to a story before I know how it’ll end, and thus also know what the major structural elements must be. Because of this, I always know where I need to be headed, and the problem becomes “how do I fix this specific, current problem within the plot room I have available” instead of the much harder “where the fuck do I even go next?”

30. Favorite line you’ve ever written.

“Ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew!”

“Well then, old friend, it was a pleasure discussing these matters with you,” Oswald says, putting down the now-empty glass and shooting an almost-warm smile at Ed.

Ed takes in a sharp breath, jaw growing more tense. For a second he considers grabbing the glass and shattering it on the other man’s head.

Instead, his face twists into an even more disdainful look and he closes his eyes for a moment, taking in another breath before he sits up from the chair opposite Oswald’s ridiculously big desk.

“You know if I could, I would kill you,” he growls, balling his hands into fists to keep him from giving in to another violent impulse - that to lunge forward and strangle the smaller man.

Oswald just smiles at the threat, eyes twinkling in amusement.

“Oh, I’m sure, you would, Edward,” he replies, voice soft and irritating in a way that feels like an itch in Ed’s ears.

“I can’t imagine just how frustrating that must be, my poor old friend,” Oswald continues, feigning pity. He chuckles, the skin around his eyes crinkling as his smile widens, “But at least, you are no longer imprisoned inside a block of ice - that must be worth something, right?”

Something short-circuits in Ed’s brain at that.

Everything is red for a moment, his blood boiling hot as it rushes through his veins, Oswald’s loud cry muffled before he’s able to focus again.

His arms are straining from how hard he’s gripping Oswald’s wrists, pinning them above his head. They’re close - almost unbearably so.

But Ed doesn’t even think about stepping back. Not now, when he has a hold on the oh-so-prideful Penguin like this.

Ed’s lips curl into a menacing smile.

“Now, would you look at that,” he says, pressing in closer so that their chests are flush against each other.

Ed can feel the quick pulse of Oswald’s heart - can feel the heat radiating off the smaller man’s body and seeping right into his.

“I’ll have you killed,” Oswald sneers, a feral look blazing up in his eyes. “I’ll have Victor freeze your legs, leaving you unable to run away from me. And then,” he flashes his teeth in a mad-looking grin,  “I’ll cut you open. I’ll have you bleed out like a pig!”

The threat only evokes a small chuckle from Ed. “Oh, you wouldn’t. And you know why?”

Oswald swallows, jaw visibly trembling as he presses his lips to a thin line.

“I know why,” Ed growls, rocking his hips forward and emitting a startled groan from Oswald. “You could scream for help. I know you have bodyguards waiting outside this room. But you won’t, will you, Oswald?”

Oswald squeezes his eyes shut, and Ed can clearly see the dark pink blush on his freckled cheeks now.

“You still want me, so badly. Secretly, you crave moments like this,” Ed whispers, leaning in close so that their faces are mere inches apart. “Moments where I lose my temper with you and pin you up against a wall. You get off on it, don’t you.”

Squeezing his eyes shut, Oswald leans his head to the side, his breath coming quicker now.

“You are lucky we have an agreement. Otherwise, these moments would cost you your life,” Ed continues before leaning in to drag his lips against the hot skin of Oswald’s exposed neck. His tongue darts out and he licks up a long wet stripe all the way up to Oswald’s ear.

It’s then that Ed feels heat beginning to coil in his stomach as he’s gripped with the delicious sensation of being in complete control.

Whilst he’d never admit it to Oswald, Ed does enjoy these moments just as much. He does get angry when Oswald riles him up like this, sure. But in the end, the outcome isn’t anything but satisfying for him.

Taking Oswald’s earlobe in between his teeth, Ed feels more of his blood rush down to his groin as a stream of soft breathy moans reaches his ears.

“You’re insufferable,” he growls right into Oswald’s ear,  another soft noise emitting from the man, before he lets go of Oswald’s wrists and forcefully grabs his face, tilting his head to he can press his lips down for a kiss.

Ed is always surprised by how much Oswald lets himself go in these moments, every ounce of rationality seemingly disappearing as he reaches around and wraps his arms around Ed’s neck, pulling him closer.

For a moment, Ed considers pulling away, just so he can taunt the man with how pathetic he is, throwing himself like this at Ed.

But it’s not as if Ed is immune to his body’s reaction.

It’s only after his jaw already aches and his lips are sore from kissing that Ed can find the willpower to pull himself away.

Oswald is looking at him with a slightly dazed look, face red all over and lips swollen pink and glistening wet.

It makes the fabric around Ed’s hard cock strain even more, his gut squeezing tightly at the sheer need pulsing through his veins.

He’s given into the temptation before  and fucked his arch enemy.

It’s not the most comfortable position for him to be him due to his leg, Ed knows that. Maybe that’s why it’s his preferred position.

As Ed reaches around the smaller man’s front to undo his pants, his chin resting on Oswald’s shoulder, there’s something like doubt creeping up in him.

i was also thinking about fluffwald, lol - a few episodes of 'impairment' before there's a triumphant (and probably kind of horrifying) moment of Return. i am curious to see if ed will stick with lee & grundy after he's back to being able to function independently again, though, or what impact his time spent without his biggest weapon will have on him long-term.

and bleh, yes, i am a little unsure about lee's involvement. i've long been wanting them to do something fresh with her, so i'm cautiously looking forward to it, but i just hope it's something that makes some modicum of sense and allows her to develop and garner some plot agency (ideally without romance, as you said)

THIS is now my new Favourite Thing about Ed’s ‘impairment’ !! So I’m gonna roll with that until further notice :p With the triumphant Return being Ed realising there was nothing wrong with his faculties in the first place!

Re: Lee... *sigh* I WANT TO LIKE HER SO MUCH... but her storylines have just never QUITE grabbed me. She VERY ALMOST got somewhere for me last season after Mario’s death, but then the virus made her just ALL about loving and wanting to be with Jim (or it seemed like to me anyways) and... eh... it’s not that she can’t have romance in her story, obviously! But it just seems like her story has been... kinda nothing BUT romance, which is rather... limiting... So yeah, I would too be cautiously interested, but that’s how I felt about her plot last season and overall it rather let me down (even if some of dark!Lee’s antics were pretty to watch), meaning that I’m less inclined to interest this time round... but we’ll see! I would certainly be happy to see her character develop and be more active in driving her own plot for sure.

After taking a couple of sips, Victor's skin slowly begins to fade into something that almost resembles that of a normal human being, yet still remaining extraordinarily pale.

Oswald tries his best not to ogle, but Victor is naked after all. And he really doesn’t have it in him to tear his gaze away from the well-built body just a few feet away from him.

Especially not from Freeze’s very impressive cock.

And as Victor leaves with a small chuckle, Oswald wonders if it’s just the blanket around him warming him up, or if it’s something else.

It’s been a long day and Oswald’s whole body aches with tiredness as he hobbles into the living room. Ed sits on the sofa closest to their big fireplace, long body sprawled out across the dark green leathered padding. He’s missing his jacket, his tie, and - much to Oswald’s happiness - that ridiculous hat of his.

The Riddler’s job for the day is done, it seems.

Ed has already spotted him, head resting on the backrest of the sofa, lolling to his side and shooting him a slightly playful smirk.

“Hey,” he says, voice a bit raspy. “Come over here,” he adds, gesturing with his hand for Oswald to sit on his lap.

Oswald is more than happy to oblige. He waddles over - a touch too enthusiastically - silk pajamas clinging to skin that’s still slightly damp from the shower he’d just taken.

With a small sigh, he slumps down against the firmness of Ed’s thighs, wriggling around a little until he’s comfortably seated.

Ed wraps his arms around him, pulling him against his chest.

“There you go, my little bird,” he whispers, chin resting on top of the slightly damp and towel-ruffled hair on Oswald’s head.

A pleasant shiver runs down Oswald’s back, warmth rising up in him and reaching everywhere - from his toes up to the tips of his ears.

Now there’s nothing to worry about. No ground to maintain, no argument to win, no plan to brew. No defeat to admit.

“Alright then,” Ed murmurs, the focus of his hand now shifting to Oswald’s thighs while the other maintains its secure hold around the waist. “You want praise? Is that it?”

Oswald nods, lips pressed into a thin line.

“You’ve been so good, Oswald.”

A shiver runs down Oswald’s spine, and there’s a hint of that one prickling feeling inside his stomach.

“More,” he whispers, keeping his face flush against Ed’s body. “Please.”

Ed tilts his chin to press a tender kiss onto Oswald’s warmed up forehead. “You’re so incredibly smart and cunning. So eloquent.”

Oswald can almost feel his heart swell at the words, warmth twisting inside his stomach.

It makes him feel good, Ed telling him these things. Yet, somehow, it’s never enough.

“And…?” Oswald tries, shamelessly desperate to hear more.

Ed begins rubbing wide circles on his back. “Hmm, let’s see...you’re also so very handsome.”

Oswald’s lips split into a small smile and he snuggles closer against Ed’s chest.

But still, not enough.

“What else?” Oswald whispers.

He knows it’s bordering on pathetic - how much he yearns for this. No matter how big his achievements may be out there in Gotham’s underworld, at the end of the day nothing matters if Ed won’t tell him how good he’s been - how well he’s done.

Ed draws in a deep breath, his hand stilling on Oswald’s back for a moment and just holding him tight. “You never cease to amaze me. You make me proud.”

Oswald utters out a soft sigh, the warmth inside of him nearly suffocating.

Yet still Oswald wishes Ed would continue. Would tell him something else, just once. Something he yearns to hear but can’t even admit to himself.

Ed remains silent but continues with his tender care, rubbing and squeezing almost every inch of Oswald’s body until his limbs feel heavy, but comfortably so, as if covered beneath a cozy warm blanket.

And yes, a blanket would be nice now, Oswald thinks, even with that one unspoken desire still nagging at him.

Just ask for it.

He grabs at Ed’s shirt, a soft groan emitting from the back of his throat as he lifts his head, eyes aching with tiredness as he blinks them open.

For a moment, Oswald considers it.  

Just ask for it.

But he’s drained, defeated by the overbearing need for sleep, so he stays silent.

Ed smiles at him, fond but slightly amused. He runs a hand through Oswald’s still damp, towel-ruffled hair.

Oswald wrinkles his nose and tries to draw his head back. Too tired, it ends with him slumping back down against Ed’s chest like a stone.

Chuckling softly, Ed says, “I think we should call it a day, and go to bed.”

Oswald nods weakly and gives his silent consent, halfway dragged and then carried to their bedroom.

Once Ed has taken off his clothes, he slips under the covers where Oswald is already curled up on his side of the bed, eyes closed, but still not completely asleep.

Suddenly, Ed’s warm breath is right against his ear, and Oswald actually makes the effort to open his eyes again, groaning softly.

“You asked me a question just a few minutes ago. Do you remember any of that?”

Oswald just blinks, mouth dropping open. “What?” he asks, voice slurred by fatigue.

The corners of Ed’s lips curve into a smirk. “The answer is yes. You are a good boy, Oswald.”

Letting out another soft groan, Oswald slides his suddenly very hot face further beneath the covers, forehead resting against Ed’s chest.

There’s a whiff of embarrassment creeping up his spine.

Dammit.

Oswald is used to having a loose tongue in his half-asleep states, when he’s on the verge of drifting off completely. It had led to many embarrassments similar to this one.

But this was different.

It’s something he’s actually yearned to hear from Ed so, so badly.

And yes, now Oswald can really feel it: tingling warmth, blooming inside of him, filling up every inch of him.

When Ed’s arms wrap around him once again, Oswald relaxes with utter bliss, a smile spreading on his lips.
