Coupons, coupons, coupons!
So Hobby Lobby has a 40% coupon that you can use on one full retail item once a day. It works for most things in the store (excluding a few items and candy/food). You can get a newspaper coupon or you can get a digital one on your phone (or print it out on your computer). Newspaper coupons can only be used once, while the digital ones can be used once a day. This is actually a really good deal, all things considered.
People tend to misunderstand the coupon and think it's 40% off the entire purchase. I'm beginning to suspect some people actually know it's on one item but they try to weasel a better deal out by acting innocent. (Customers are surprisingly dishonest!)
Ok, so, you can only use this coupon per one transaction. You can't keep coming back to the store and reusing the coupon. That's the deal, got it?
I had a couple come through, and the woman used the coupon on her one item. Cool. She then said her S.O. was going to buy something too, and use the same coupon. Well, that's fine too...
....except she used the same credit card for both purchases! Heck, she even used her smartphone (so same code) for both purchases too! The only sense in which her S.O. was "buying" the item was by holding it and then putting it at my register. He had nothing to do with the transaction otherwise.
I very politely told her that, well, she can't do that. (I let her do it that once because it was too late to stop her.) She then snippily told me she'd been shopping there longer than I'd been employed. (A sort of "Know your place!" kind of comment.) Her attitude stunned me into silence.
However, what was MORE surprising was when Princess told me that what the customer had done was perfectly acceptable.
What. The. Hell.
What is the point of saying the coupon code can only be used for one transaction per person then? There is literally no point in having that rule if you can drag 5 of your friends along and have them all "buy something", while you pay for those things with your credit card and use your code for all the transactions! Like, seriously, what is the point?
Well, fine. Let customers keep cheating the system. They'll keep doing it and finally some corporate knuckle head will realize they're losing money and tell everyone to stop it. And then I'll get in trouble because no one will bother to tell ME about the change.
Just you wait. It'll happen!
