Here’s a custom bookmark of “Bad Wings” by The Glitch Mob as I see it because of synesthesia, a condition that causes me to see music visually when I hear it!

Betty: Baddy has no survival skills, his need to win has replaced them.
Chomps: That can't be true.
Betty: Watch this. Hey, Baddy, race you to the bottom of the stairs!
Baddy: [throws himself down the staircase]

DAY 71: Bad Wings by the Glitch Mob
Album: Drink the Sea Release: May 25th, 2010 Genre: Glitch
When I lived with my grandparents, I watched a ton of TV. Their tastes were stereotypical for grandparents: primetime cable shows. Of which, America’s Got Talent was in the regular rotation. I devoutly watched the show through around the seventh or eighth season until my tastes outgrew celebrity panel talent shows. What does any of that have to do with the Glitch Mob? Bear with me here. In Season 5, an act named Fighting Gravity made what was in my opinion the greatest run by a talent act I’ve seen on the show. Their act included several of the Glitch Mob’s tracks as their backing music, only strengthening the impact of Fighting Gravity’s performances. This act introduced me to the Glitch Mob in all their glory, only to resurface once again in high school after reminiscing about Fighting Gravity with a friend. Hell, we would even perform in a bass drum ensemble for a couple years in our school’s talent show to excerpts of the Glitch Mob (I’m not linking the video to that one, it’s terrible). Appropriately named, the Glitch Mob is a trio known for their excessive use of glitch, a sub-genre of electronic music that intentionally sounds like glitched audio (skipping, feedback, static, distortion, to name a few). Their grooves were distorted yet punctuated enough that we could just do something like adapt it into a bass ensemble. It’s that simplicity with just enough substance to keep you drawn in to each track that finds me coming back to these guys most often, especially through the rose-tinted glasses when I listen to their debut album Drink the Sea. Clocking in at the second longest track on the album by a margin of 5 seconds, Bad Wings is particularly a song that floods my memory with nostalgia of driving in my buddy’s Kia Rondo with a CD case full of self-burned CDs full of electronic music that included this song. The spiritual chants at the beginning send chills down my spine every time, setting a perfect atmosphere for the chill riff that builds and combines with the chants throughout the song. Bad Wings contains immense intensity, but it’s smart in its delivery by contrasting that intensity with long bouts of low fidelity. By far one of my favorite electronic artists to date.
Song Of The Day for December 29th:
Bad Wings - The Glitch Mob
So since I got this album Ive been listening to it fairly non-stop to and from work and been hella enjoying myself. And very quickly Bad Wings was my favourite to come out of the album and for good reason with large movement changes, interesting sound dynamics and a rich drone bass make this track so enjoyable to listen to.
