hey here for the flash fic (:
Anyone can have a song stuck in their head, but for this girl--the girl with the sunbeam smile and starlit eyes--she has the music rooted in her veins, steeped in her blood, the constant melody thrumming in perfect time to the fast-paced thump thump bass drum kick of her heartbeat. Her vessels and arteries can’t always hold it in, so it diffuses into her fingers, which tap out a nearly soundless but happy tune against the kitchen countertop, or into the soles of her feet, which strike out energetic beats as they run across the firm wet sand, only stopping when the ocean water rushes over, under, all around them, cool and welcoming.
She’s on the beach again, but the music is too strong in her today for it to settle for mere melody; no, today it needs a voice, her voice, and so as the breeze blows along, it carries her singing with it, a pretty, resounding echo that twists over the white-capped waves and into the blue-grey sky, an enchanting sound that conjures ghosts of pirate ships and storms long past from the depths of the sea, rising before her eyes in the warm, salty mist.
It never stops, the lyrics tumbling off her lips, one song spilling into the next, because her music is endless, and soon the mist clears, and the ghosts retreat, this time her melody dancing along as a lullaby to sing them back into their eternal sleep.
Eventually, as her voice grows hoarse, she considers stopping, but then her ears pick up the soft pinging of guitar strings, and her eyes fall on the guys and girls gathered around a midday campfire, and when they say please don’t stop--you should play with us, she laughs merrily, clutching her sweater tighter as she pitches her voice to unfailingly match the new tune, her lips curving into a smile made of secrets because don’t they know--the music never stops playing for me.
