Baetyl - the sacred Black Stone of Aphrodite was found in the ruins of her temple in Paphos, Cyprus. Likely of meteoric origin, this gabbro stone was worshipped as an aniconic (non-representational) idol of the goddess in her Sanctuary at Kouklia since at least 1,300 BCE.
