An idea of mine for a possible interaction between two of my OCs, Alessandra and Dawn. This is purely for indulgence, and a substitute for the comic that I’m not gonna make.
(I would like to note that while I do have these OCs, their stories are not fully realized, especially for Dawn. The circumstances that I built for them have become far more complicated than I thought they would, and are no longer compatible with what I had previously envisioned, but I like them too much to toss it all.)
Alessandra, a young bodyguard-in-training, is currently in the middle of one of her sanctioned Civil Exposure assignments, which means she’ll be staying here in this city for about two weeks. She’s been anxious as hell the entire time—this environment contrasts jarringly with the one she’s used to, and she’d stay in her hotel room the entire time if she didn’t have tasks to complete. She’s anxious every time, really, especially now that she’s met someone.
This is her fifth Exposure assignment, and during the second, she came across someone while at a quaint and cozy (though in her eyes, tiny and exposed) café. Dawn Ives, is what she called herself, a local that’s currently attending North Hazel University for reasons Alessandra can’t currently recall. Ives must’ve become interested in her, the only explanation she can come up with for why the civilian has insisted so stubbornly that they continue to meet. Fraternizing is strictly prohibited, and just the thought of some civ trying to get close to her makes her incredibly uneasy, but… she can’t quite bring herself to match the other’s determination, a weakness that’s brought her to where she is today.
The park.
Dawn was aghast when Alessandra first revealed that she’d never been to one, and so the location of their next meeting was decided right then and there, without any room for debate. Apparently, Dawn loves spending time at the park, finding it beautiful and relaxing. Alessandra has to admit that she does consider it to be… at least slightly more tolerable than the rest of the city, but that’s about it. She doesn’t like being outside.
While they’re making their way down one of the short, paved trails, Dawn notices that Alessandra seems rather uneasy, both stiff and antsy in her movements, and short in her responses. Not that she isn’t already like that all the time, but she’s more nervous now than she usually is.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Dawn asks despite knowing the answer she’s about to get, slowing her pace slightly.
Alessandra glances at the civilian, then focuses her eyes ahead.
“Nothing.”
Dawn sighs somewhat amusedly, despite her genuine concern.
“We both know you never mean it when you say that, Casey. What’s really wrong?” She insists, leaving Alessandra knowing that she’s not going to get away with being dishonest.
The trainee needs a long few seconds to hesitate and calculate before she responds.
“… I don’t like being outside.”
“Really?” Dawn asks, surprised. “How come?”
“.. Lots of reasons.”
Dawn gives her The Look, and Alessandra breathes a rather frustrated sigh, one of her feet landing a little harder than usual, scraping slightly against the asphalt. Dawn has to suppress an endeared and amused grin.
“It’s.. too big, and too open, and too dirty, to name a few things. Anything could come from anywhere, how would you hide if you were under attack? And there’s dirt and trash and bird shit everywhere, it’s probably a miracle that I haven’t gotten sick yet,” as Alessandra gestures a contemptuous ‘look, this is exactly what I’m talking about’ hand at one of the trash bins as they pass it by. “Everything about it is too much.”
Dawn only chuckles at her peer’s short rant, and crinkles her brow amusedly, with but a hint of worry.
“You really do spend most of your time inside, huh?”
Alessandra gives an affirmative nod.
“That’s right.”
“Right… but, you don’t have to worry so much about dangers here, y’know.” Dawn mentions in a way that she hopes is reassuring. “The crime at this city’s pretty low, and you’re not likely to get sick just by being outside. You’d definitely catch something if you went and licked a bench,” she jests, “but otherwise, you should be fine.”
Alessandra only shrugs a shoulder, acknowledging Dawn’s words, but doesn’t reply otherwise, her gaze still held forward. Dawn knows by now that she’s not going to be able to pry any further without agitating her friend-to-be, so she lets it end there. They continue down the winding path, the silence a bit calmer now than it was earlier.
