This week’s #MondayMaker is @brennan_bryce of @walnut_schoolhouse! This weekend Stu and I took a sourdough bread and pizza making workshop at @walnut_schoolhouse and fell even deeper in love with sourdough, baking, and the process (also, pizza). @brennan_bryce ‘s passion for baking, whole grains, sustainable sourcing, and community shines through his teaching and the @walnut_schoolhouse is the perfect, cozy and humble backdrop for it. One of my favorite things we learned was that brick ovens were originally built for communities and people would gather to bake off their breads, etc in them. Different scoring patterns on the breads were used to distinguish one family’s loaf from the next. While community gatherings might be on hold for now (and for good reason), I hope when we come out the other end we remember the power of sharing and community. Last year @walnut_schoolhouse held donation-based community pizza nights spring-fall and they were incredibly inspiring for sharing food, friendship, and community outdoors. Hope y’all stay safe and healthy out there, and if you’re holed up for now you should nerd out on the variety and history of breads on @brennan_bryce or @walnut_schoolhouse’s instagram! And please remember small businesses, local growers, bakers, and makers during this time. Markets may be closed but many vendors (including Brennan) are offering some delivery services. What cooler way to keep in community while being quarantined?? - - - #makermonday #bakermonday #makersgottamake #bakersgottabake #baking #sourdough #wholegrains #pizza #brickovens #sourdoughclass #bakingclass #marshallnc #bread #sourdoughbread #history #tradition #bakingtraditions #community #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocalbakers https://www.instagram.com/p/B90LSJ_h_OP/?igshid=vyqay2k47xeg
