Every year, the towns around the Segre river in Western Catalonia (Ponent) celebrate the transsegre: a non-competitive race down the river using home-made boats.

The event, which this year is in its 39th edition, has become a very popular festivity for local people. It lasts for 2 days: on Saturday, the boats start the race in Camarasa and sail down the calm waters until Sant Llorenç de Montgai. That evening, there is a party and free concerts until early morning. Sunday at noon, the sailors who managed to arrive the previous day leave on their boats again, starting in Gerb to reach Balaguer. Meanwhile, people gather to watch the boats, eat appetizers and watch street performers.
