PSA for those growing bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) in areas with hot summers. I've been seeing a lot of posts about browning of leaves at this time on the many bonsai FB groups I belong to and this post is to ease your minds. This is a natural occurrence that happens, especially in the landscape trees we see around us. Go ahead and take a look, at least half, even in swamps, look like the first pic. The heat pushes the tree into a summer dormancy period, and unless you've been actively pruning it (which forces it out of dormancy and into new growth) you'll see browning leaves. If you are bothered by it, defoliate and cut it back and you'll get new growth. But it'll start growing (as seen by the third pic) by itself again too.
