My faceup journey started on 2007. At that time I painted some of my own dolls and started doing commissions very cheaply within my own country to get more experience. Around 2009 I started to get the hang of painting these, even though I wasn’t painting that much even back then.
I started to get more commissions gradually year by year that I could handle and after some trouble with customers I decided I won’t be taking that much commissions anymore and finally stopped doing them all together, few exceptions included.
I think my style hasn’t changed that much since -14, maybe I add more details now than I did back then? But yeah, practice and painting plenty of these will help you improve yourself.
After I got my first doll early 2007 (that I had ordered in the previous year) I tried doing a faceup once and it SUCKED, I did one layer in and thought it was so bad that I never wanted to do these again. I sent my first doll to be painted by a local faceup artist, who did some of my dolls even after that, and settled down with it. And then my second and third dolls came and I started trying out faceups on them too. They were horrible still but I finished them. And gave myself a good pat on the back.
Slowly people got interested and wanted me to paint their dolls, it was so exciting and fun! I started to think this was something I could be good at and tried my best to improve myself the upcoming years.
And here I am. Skill-wise. Sadly doing commissions is very hard on me physically and mentally so I can’t accept those even when I get people asking for them. And I feel sorry about that.. :( I still feel like I owe people in some way.
But if you inspire to start offering commissions or doing faceups in general, my inbox is always open for questions! <3
