Sat Nav images of Balsall Heath in Birmingham, where I lived as an art student. The first picture is of the student house I lived in on Willows Crescent, right near the Edgbaston Cricket Grounds. The next three images are of Cheddar Road - at that time a notorious red-light area, adjacent to the Muslim community. The closed up corner shop was a business abandoned by the owner - who slowly used up his stock over the three years I was there. Gradually his window shelves became empty. There were streets with industrial buildings and pubs, whose businesses were also in decline since the 1970’s. The last picture is of the local mosque that I passed each day, as I walked to college on Margaret Street.
