Glowing with its beaming synths,"Avstånd och skog” (tr. “Distance and Forest”) is the latest track from Bam Spacey’s recently-released “Eden”. Scaling with its uplifting keys, the dream-like state of the track is enhanced by its euphoric choral arrangements and sweeping synth surge. While the track seemingly gives off an illusory state, for Bam Spacey’s Magnus Johansson, the blissful feelings felt on “Avstånd och skog” though now distant were once very real as he explains,

"Avstånd och Skog" translates to Distance and Forest, which is the opening track on our sophomore album Eden. It's a natural starting point for the songs featured on the album, it's about the place of security the rest of the songs on the album then seeks to find again. It's a place that's lost in time, not fully remembered, but made up of fragments of memory. That's what the album is really about, the struggle to find a sense of security, of real peace of mind, like when you were a child. The title references where I, Magnus, grew up, in the woods in the south of Sweden, were everything was far away; dreams, places and those real feelings. Even if we're broken down along the way, I think that's what all of us try to get back to. The album is about being broken, what breaks us, and what we do to get back up.”

Bam Spacey - Eden

After a two-year gap, Malmo’s Bam Spacey makes up for lost time with a spellbinding 9-minute-long epic titled “Eden”. Split into three, approximately 3-minute-long sections each, “Eden” is a definite slow burner that makes sure to tease the nuances of their production. From Mattias Wallenius’ lonely crack of guitar, the slow haunt of Vanja Hultberg’s vocals and the minimal-beat hammer over the progressive trance-like wave of producer Magnus Johansson’s rave cuts, what is so spectacular about the trio is how subtly they juggle this organized chaos. Amidst its lyrics of hope and longing, the nine-minute track ends with a lonely piano send-off. As Bam Spacey’s Magnus Johansson tells us, “Eden” with all it’s highs and lows is ultimately about losing it all:

“Eden is the first single off the new album, also called Eden. It's been two years in the works. The single is really about losing everything, everything you though was yours to keep: losing yourself in the process; never being really sure you're going to get anything back. It's about the grey zone between letting go and reaching out, with everything really just out of focus. That's what the lyrics are about too, the way memories form in this grey zone. It's a track that just organically grew out of a short instrumental. We wanted to tie up the album and this track did just that. In some ways it touches on all the subjects the album touches on.”
