It's an Asian tradition and using a bamboo steamer is traditionally used for buns, dumplings, sweet potato and yams.  However, you can steam just about anything in a bamboo steamer.  Don't let Asian cuisine intimidate you.  In this video I used a bamboo steamer basket to steam some broccoli and carrots and didn't even use a wok, although I wished I had one at the moment.  It's such an easy side dish that makes dinner much more simple. #jennifermac #bamboo steamer
