can i request you write the most self indulgent first date piece you possibly can? the fluffiest/silliest/awkward/sweet thing you yourself want 🥺
Thank you so much! This was such a sweet request and I really enjoyed writing it. For this one Deku and reader are, in my head, in their third year of UA about to graduate, and they’re both 18/19-ish??? I’ll be honest, first dates terrify me because I hate the idea of having to go through all the awkward stages of a relationship and I just want to skip to the soft being in love part, so I definitely did give them an already established relationship as friends before they went on this date lol. What can I say, my ideal romance irl would be friends to lovers! Also first dates with activities are superior I said what I said.
Warnings: None! This is pure fluff.
You hadn’t been this nervous since...well, ever. You would think going on a date with someone you were friends with wouldn’t be so nerve-wracking, but somehow it made it worse. What if you ruined everything and couldn’t even be friends with him anymore?
Despite all your fears, the tentative love of your life seemed almost calm when you got to the amusement park. Odd for Izuku Midoriya, a man known for his nervousness, to seem so collected. Then again, when Izuku had made up his mind about something he was always sturdy in his beliefs, and he had asked you on this date.
“Hey ‘Zuku.” You smiled softly.
“Hey.” He smiled, sticking his hands in his pockets. “You look amazing.”
You giggled, doing a spin for him to see your outfit.
“I thought if there was ever an occasion to get a little dressed up, it was this.”
“You know you don’t have to dress up for me, right?”
You knew it was true. Izuku had seen you at your lowest, drowning in a nest of blankets, puking up your guts and in the same pajamas you had been wearing for a week straight. Showing off for Izuku wasn’t a means of hiding yourself though, and you explained as much to him.
“It’s not hiding me, Izu.” You smiled softly. “I just like to look as pretty as you make me feel.”
You fidgeted with your hands, unable to make eye contact.
“Well, then I guess I should take the prettiest girl in the world out for some fun.”
You linked arms with him, smiling.
“It only seems right.”
Izuku excitedly led you into the park, making a beeline for the cotton candy.
“No amusement park experience is complete without cotton candy.”
“When you’re right, you’re right.”
You two wandered through the park for a while, hand in hand. Izuku’s rough, scarred hand dwarfed yours, but you didn’t mind at all, enjoying the warmth as the sun started to set and a chill dispersed through the air. You leaned into his side, and he released your hand so that he could wrap an arm over your shoulder and tug you into the protective embrace of his jean jacket.
“What do you want to do next?”
You had never seen Izuku like this before, so glowing and confident. There was something beautiful about it, like you had been allowed to witness the sun on a day out, rubbing elbows with mortals. He was radiant, so bright and happy.
“Well, it’s dark out and all the lights are on, so what do you think about a spin on the Ferris wheel?”
“I like the way you think.”
You two headed arm in arm to wait in line, giggling to each other about little inside jokes as the time passed. Eventually, you got to the front of the line and managed to squeeze yourself into one of the carts, despite Izuku being a pretty large man. As you worked your way towards the top, you gathered your nerve.
“Hey Izuku?” you started.
“Yeah?”
You were still tucked up under his arm and it was making your heartbeat go crazy.
“This might sound silly, but...we’ve been friends a while, since our first year at UA, and I don’t know, I guess I just wanted to say that I’ve always admired you and thought you were amazing. I’ve always respected your drive and your passion and your conviction, and I just really wanted you to know that I didn’t agree to go out with you because this was just something I wanted to try or because I didn’t want to hurt your feelings.” You took a deep breath. “I like you Izuku.”
He shifted in the seat to face you better.
“I really like you. Like, really like you. Since our first year. Do you remember when we first met?”
You laughed at yourself, embarrassed. “And I spilled my lunch tray all over you because I was so clumsy and tripped right on top of your table? Yes, unfortunately, that memory is burned into my mind forever.”
He smiled softly, the lights of the park glowing around him. “It’s one of my favorites. I remember you looked up at me and started rambling apologies but I hadn’t even noticed the food all over me because I was too busy seeing you for what felt like the very first time. I had seen you in class and stuff before, of course, but I had only ever noticed your quirk and how you used it before. When you literally fell right into my life, I was entirely unprepared to be so immediately in love with you. If I thought I was out of my depth joining UA, damn if I didn’t know it looking at you.”
“You know,” you said, leaning forward as a burst of confidence hit you at just the right time, “I think I’ll always be a little bit out of my depth with you, Izuku Midoriya. That sounds very exciting.”
As you hit the top of the Ferris wheel, in the most cliche moment you could have possibly orchestrated, you kissed him. He kissed you back, warm and solid, the motion of your bodies rocking the small cart as his hands cupped your face. It was a soft kiss, a sweet kiss, a perfect first.
You pulled away smiling, making your descent towards the ground despite rarely having felt quite so high.
“Would now be a good time to ask if you want to do this again sometime?”
You laughed, letting him help you out of the cart.
“Yes, Izuku. For you, the answer is always going to be yes.”
