BEFORE THE DISASTER »
Before the outbreak, Jamie was a relatively normal man. He did not live with his family, his mother and father having moved to Ireland just a few years prier and he had no siblings. He’d spend most of his time at home, playing video games with his best friend Dan because “the single life is the way to go, man.“ Of course, for Jamie, being single sucked but he couldn’t really expect anything else considering he never left his and Daniel’s shared apartment unless it was to fix the wonky areal on the roof, or for more Pretzels. The two men worked from home as web designers so they had no other reason to leave.
When they found out about the apocalypse, it was a Saturday. There was a commotion outside, the sound of banging and screaming throughout the whole of the apartment complex. After a while of trying to ignore it and concentrate on the game the two were playing, Jamie dropped his controller and stood, stating that he was going to shut them up and left the room.
In the corridor, the noises grew louder and with a huff, Jamie stormed his way down the staircase. When he reached the bottom, he saw what looked like a group of teenagers. Two were lying against the wall with their chins to their chests and the third stood over them with his back to Jamie. At first he asked politely for them to keep the noise down and all three people immediately turned their attention to him. That was when he realized that they weren’t people. Not anymore.
He didn’t scream like a girl, no, of course not. Nor did he run or trip, falling face-first on the stairs.
When he reached the correct apartment again, he slammed and locked the door behind him and ran to his roommate to rush out the story. It went something along the lines of “it’s like a video game out there, man! But with no guns and- and more shaking!” The boys were close, and not much more needed to be said.
They packed up their weapons (although they hated the thought of tainting their collectables) and fled. If it wasn’t for the fact that they came across a family fleeing their toe with extra space in their car, the two roommates wouldn’t have gotten far, but they got lucky.
AFTER THE DISASTER »
The two were taken to a small town where they were told they’d be safe. They shared a shabby motel room with two single beds, weapons hidden below their mattresses for emergencies and raids only. They act brave and experienced in front of the other residents, but they’re both just as scared as everybody else is. Although it isn’t said out loud, they both rely very much on each other and wouldn’t dream of leaving the other’s side.
