Spring Design Releases Final Beta of ScreenShare
FREMONT, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Spring Design today announced the final beta release of ScreenShare® Browser, an Android app that extends a mobile phone’s web browsing, email, and video content to the larger, easier-to-read screen of Android tablets. ScreenShare lets phone and tablet connect via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or mobile hotspots to work together seamlessly and supports patented dual screen interactions for enhanced user productivity.
With the new ScreenShare app, users can access the Internet on the tablet’s browser connecting via the phone’s cellular network but with no need for tethering. The ScreenShare Browser feature uses Bluetooth to link phone and tablet, drawing very little energy from the phone’s battery for transactions like browsing web pages or email on tablets. The tablet browser can stay connected to access the Internet for the entire work day with typical web browsing usage.
Handling email on the road, even without Wi-Fi is convenient and comfortable since ScreenShare lets users extend their mobile phone’s email to the large tablet screen where they can read, type and send email as well as read attachments.
Using ScreenShare dual screen interaction, a user can move browser content back and forth between phone and tablet, for instance sending selected news stories to the tablet for easier reading while using the phone to continue searching for new articles. Or content found on the tablet can easily be synced back to the phone.
Where Wi-Fi is available, users can utilize their mobile phones to control high bandwidth applications like video streaming and large file download to their tablets. For example, users can now watch a YouTube cooking video demonstration on the tablet while browsing the related instructions and comments on the phone. Where there is no Wi-Fi, ScreenShare beta can use a carrier’s mobile hotspot (tethering) to stream video or download files on the tablet while using the phone for functions such as commenting on the videos or browsing text associated with videos.
The December 18 release is the final ScreenShare Browser beta and is free of charge for download from Google Play. The premium version which supports secure website access with no ads would be listed for $4.99 when it is officially released. The first few thousand users who complete a simple survey (link to springdesign) will qualify for a free version of the premium release.
ScreenShare now integrates SpringMail email and SpringNet browsing that were initially released September 2012 in the first beta test into one app to streamline the install process.
Future Versions of ScreenShare
Spring Design will soon add a Gallery application to ScreenShare in Q1 2013 that can sync phone’s SD card content and the navigation control to the tablet. For instance, photos stored on a mobile phone can be displayed instantly on the screen of the tablet allowing the user to scroll, resize and navigate images on the tablet. ScreenShare will continue to evolve into a suite of applications developed by Spring Design and its partners. An updated video demo of the ScreenShare applications is at: youtu
