Re: eridian ecologiogy
Im a microbiologist in training (undergrad) so I dont really know TOO much about the overall biosphere, but
I do have SOME ideas related to the lore doc and how eridians function as creatures. For example: a radially simetrical 5 limb system is probably the "most" common bodyplan. (Most is in quotes because most life is atually bacteria, which, notably do not exactly have a comparable body plan)
On earth 4 limbs with bilateral symmetry (symmetrical across the center of the body. I.e left and right) is so common on earth because a lot of earth animals evolved from a common ancestor, so its very likely larger Erid animals have a simalar 5 planar biology.
What is even more likely is that the vast majority of erid animals have the same, rocky exterior with a fleshy organic interior. I say this because again, it would have evolved long before eridians and likely branched to several "closely" related species.
The biggest thing i find intresting is the mitochondria! In the lore doc this is explained by a panspernia event seeding life on erid and earth. Which is AWSOME. It also gives us a LOT of information about the biosphere on a microscopic levle.
Its currently hypothesized that mitochondria were orignslly their own indepdent orgnasum before they got swallowed by a larger creature and incorporated into part of the genome. They are present in almost all eukaryotic creatures but not bacteria, this is because bacteria are the oldest branch of the tree of life and eukarya the youngest. In other words: tau Ceti life travled to earth and Erid at some point after that split, but brought along a lot of the life that already existed (so not just eukaryotic life went to earth and erid, the other branches did to but they likely originated at Tau Ceti)
This gives us a starting point, early eukayots would be the branch point and from there life can go whatever way it wants to go.
On the practical side most large life is probably blind and hses echo location, sleeping like eridians do is probably not super uncommon although I don't think it would be entierlly universal, diffrent creatures likely have diffrent ways to deal with this, Eridians being socal animals (like humans) and watching eachoter sleep is probably not super common as its what promoted early co-operation and helped lead to sapientce (theoretically) other strategies probably include camouflage, making burrows, nesting, or going to super hidden places,
With the magnetic field as strong as it is, some creatures probably use that to navigate,
Interestingly, where earth life came from the ocean, eridian life may have come from the sky. The lore doc says the bulk of energy capture is done by microbes that live in the atmosphere that creatures eat, and then other creatures eat that etc. Im imagining a whale mixed with a spider made of rocks, but who knows. The denser atmosphere means it would be eaiser to achieve lift off so theres probably a lot more gliding and flying animals espechally ones that dont look like they'd be able to do that. Smaller wings, heavier bodies, maybe even thin membranes betwen them. Hmmm.
A lot of species both fly and come to the ground, theres probably a lot of "birds" they'd also have a reverse ocean in other ways, very little if any at all light can get to the surface but at higher altitudes there may be some type of photosynthesis.
So. Uhh I imagine erid as sort of an air-bassed ocean.
me reading all of this... yay wahoo yippeee!! this is exactly the sort of thing i want to see and read more of! ty for sending in some of your thoughts it's all really cool <3
Messaging you to say a Roald Dahl cook book exists and I've had the Matilda cake several times (I'd send you pics if you want them but my book is in Dutch)
matilda cake real? it's a SPECIFIC chocolate cake??? !! THAT'S AWESOME
PST it’s ya boy mouse
ohhhh a leetol mouse for meeee
gives u a banan
mm scrumdillyumptious...
Looks at you with bighuge eyes. Where can I read your fluttercord fic :o3?
here it is on fimfiction and here's the ao3 link
Ya know... I have a bit of my own Stratt on Mary AU (which I need to publish STAT). Only it's written by three pebbles and ships her with who was basically her Eridian Counterpart.
aw sounds cute!
it's funny you say bc literally just like an hour ago i saw another mention of a fic playing on a similar concept (pebbles writing RPF of grace). really funny if that became a subgenre in the fic scene??
☕️ Minesweeper
funnily enough the one and only time ive played minesweeper is a The Murderbot Diaries fic where someone, like, programmed it into ao3 as part of a story? i can't recall ever playing it otherwise. stressful kinda game for me aaawahhh i don't wanna blow up!
