a song of ice and fire or game of thrones
A Song of Ice and Fire, definitely.
It’s great to see the series come to life, and I think they have done an excellent job with casting; all the characters work so well with how I imagined them in my head. But...
Part of my preference for the books isn’t a comment on the quality of the show, because 99.9% of the time, I prefer books to their adaptations. That’s just a personal preference of mine; nothing compares to the experience of reading. There have been plenty of changes that I think have either been good, or not important, and I know change is a necessary part of adaptations.
BUT I do have quite a few complaints about the way the show has handled some storylines (Jon, Daenerys, Robb, mostly) and treated some characters (Catelyn comes to mind first…just because it’s clear the showrunners are just majorly into metaphorically sucking Robb’s dick and EVERYTHING IS CATELYN’S FAULT).
The show also has this kind of disturbing LOL LOOK BOOBS!!!! thing going on that honestly, I don’t think the books have. GRMM writes some pretty goofy sex scenes, but I don’t think the books ever had quite the same…objectification that the show has (BROS WON’T WANT TO WATCH THIS SHOW WITHOUT GRATUITOUS NUDITY, RIGHT??? NOBODY CAN HANDLE SCENES WHERE LOTS OF TALKING IS HAPPENING UNLESS PEOPLE ARE BONING!)
So, yeah. Not that the books are perfect or anything, but I really do like them more. As for the show, overall, I think season 1 was quite good and season 2 was…not altogether terrible. So I’m really waiting for season 3 to tip the scales one way or another.
