Petition: Save the Oceans- supoport a Globan Fishing Ban
https://www.thepetitionsite.com/de/takeaction/807/901/092/
Billions of fish die every year in nets and on hooks. Some are destined for human consumption, many are tortured just for "sport"
The ocean is in trouble. It's being overfished, polluted. Populations of marine species are being fished to their limits globally: 90 percent of fish stocks are being taken from the world's oceans .
Large migratory fish species, such as Pacific bluefin tuna, have seen some of the greatest declines. The best way to protect the most extraordinary ecosystems from illegal fishing and overfishing is to BAN all fishing and other extractive activities.
Fishing kills also hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, seabirds and marine mammals, including whales, sharks, dolphins and porpoises, die as bycatch. As many as 200,000 loggerhead sea turtles and 50,000 leatherback sea turtles are caught annually. Fishing also kills hundreds of thousands of seabirds when they become entangled in gillnets, caught on longline hooks or interact with trawls.
Overfishing:The cold hard facts about overfishing. World-wide, overfishing is one of the biggest threats to the health of seas and their inhabitants. Overfishing also affects many people directly – above all in developing countries. Daily, tonnes of fish are hauled out of the sea. The Ocean is unable to renew what we are consuming fast enough.
Coral Reefs which are home to 25% of all marine life are being destroyed. The reefs grow at a rate of 0.3 cm to 10 cm a day. What you see now has been growing for the last 5,000 to 10,000 years. Aquaculture:The increase in demand and the destruction of oceans, has lead to the rapid growth of the aquaculture industry. Fish are now being confined to the same levels of confinement & toxic living conditions as other factory farmed animals. Recent research has proven that not only do fish feel pain, but they also have intelligence, long-term memories, the ability to use tools and form sophisticated social structures.
- The key parts in ecosystems need full protection from destructive fisheries; e.g. the spawning and nursing grounds of fish, delicate sea floor, unique unexplored habitats, and corals. The best way to protect the most extraordinary ecosystems from illegal fishing and overfishing is to baN all fishing and other extractive activities.

-inform people To combat fishing in your area, post "No Fishing" signs on your land if you have a pond or a lake, join or form an anti-fishing organization, and protest fishing tournaments. Encourage your legislators to enact or enforce wildlife-protection laws. Before you support a "wildlife" or "conservation" group, ask about its position on fishing. Groups such as the National Wildlife Federation, the National Audubon Society, the Sierra Club, the Izaak Walton League, the Wilderness Society, the World Wildlife Fund, and many others either support or do not oppose sport fishing.
