The Ferhadija-Moschee in Banja Luka was built in 1579. It was destroyed in 1993 during the civil war in Bosnia. Also known as the Ferhat Pasha Mosque, it was rebuilt from the ruins over a period of nine years, mostly using debris from the rubble. Around 65% of the original material of the mosque, 3,500 fragments were recovered from river beds, stonemasons and dumps. The Banja Luka Divers’ Club recovered a whole pillar from a lake. The reopenening took place 23 years to the day the historical building was razed to the ground. #thewanderinglondoner #banjaluka #banjalukacity #ferhadija #ferhadijabanjaluka #ferhadijamosque #bosnia #beautfifulbosnia #bosniaherzegovina #bosniatravel #bósnia #bosniaandherzegovina🇧🇦 #visitbosnia #bosnia🇧🇦 (at Ferhadija Banja Luka) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ceo3504oBfh/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
