Every year, I call my mother and ask her, "Will you be at the office on [enter day of week here]?"

Her response is always the same: "Yes. Why?"

Me: "No reason..."

Her: "Sarah! Save your money. Don't get me anything."

Me: "Oh I won't..."

Her: "No, seriously. Save your money."

Me: "Okay, Mom..."

Every year, we have the same conversation. Every year, I hang up and set in a delivery order for a Mother's Day gift with a little grin on my face.

This year, I sent her a wine grape bansai tree.
