Vegetable Ramen from Bantam King; Washington, DC

What do you know about Parmesan cheese on your ramen?? Probably not a lot, but It’s actually really good. This is the only vegetarian ramen on the menu and it’s very different than the veg ramen at their sister restaurant, Daikaya. Different but still really great! Bantam King has a different vibe, too. It’s sort reminiscent of a Subway (the sandwich shop) in the late 90's. Sort of. Anyway, the ramen is great and they have my favorite UCC iced green tea! Thank you, Japan.

Home for the Holidays: Bantam

It’s hard, when exorcism jobs take him far away from Kit for months at a time. He doesn’t like it much, even if it does land him back in the mountainous terrain of his childhood. Appalachia holds a lot of mixed emotions for him, even a decade after having left to start a new life.

It’s particularly hard being away from Kit when they should be watching the Thanksgiving day parade together, curled up on the sofa, drinking hot chocolate and eating pumpkin pie. Instead, he’s hunched in the cab of his truck with the heat off, dialing Kit’s number with fingers stiff from the cold.

She picks up on the first ring. “Hey. Happy Thanksgiving.”

“Hiya, Princess,” Bantam croaks, voice hoarse from not having spoken to another soul in at least a week. “Happy Thanksgivin’.”

There’s something that sounds kind of like a stifled sniffle on the other end, and then Kit says, “Miss you. Gonna have to eat this whole damn pie myself, now.”

Bantam laughs at that, the first time he’s laughed in he isn’t sure how long. “Oh, I’m sure you’ll manage. And I miss you too.”
