Tarot de Marseilles inspiration next for comparison. All the Sword suits will be themed to 🛸Okumura's Palace🛸.

We have made our choice and have traveled through the portal back to the start. (The Alpha) Here we have a glimpse of a moment that created Okumura. With awareness his father's constant debt, a child version Kunikazu Okumura cries, as a toy he has long coveted goes beyond his grasp. Held prisoner by his poverty as the sword pierces the box, rendering his dream of obtaining it, gone. This is small to grown ups but heartbreaking for a child who just wanted to dream of something beyond his universe.

🍷The Page of Cups

All the Cups suits will be themed to 🍷Kamoshida's Palace🍷

Finding a Page of Cups within Kamoshida's story was very hard. It normally represents, not only youth but intuition & creative aspiration. However, since the Minor Arcana is composed of all villains & people who have been led astray by unsavory or negative feelings, I managed to find a character that takes (at the very least) some traits of the Reverse meanings (like the rest of the cards). Nakaoka was Ryuji's teammate before he betrayed him by spilling everyone on the team's secrets to Kamoshida (later confirmed by Mishima) which led to Ryuji having his leg broken and the disbanding of the track team.

Instead of sticking with his friends to make all their adolescent track dreams come true, he tried to take advantage, was lead by the nose by Kamoshida & was prayed upon due to his insecurities, immaturity & vulnerability. Nakaoka's story only gets properly fleshed out in the Chariot confidant which makes him unique in the Court (face cards) cards. Had he formed better bonds with his track mates, he probably could have embodied the upright meaning through his bonds.

This is why I have him looking at his cup hesitantly, like maybe this was not the best way to earn his prize.

All the Pentacle suits will be themed to Kaneshiro''s Palace

It seems fated that we face all the monstrous forms of our kings in the 9 of of the suits. Here we see Kaneshiro's monstrous form as a greedy insect, clutching to the wall hoarding his riches earned off the back of children. The greedy fly seems to touch both upright and reverse meanings here since he stares at us with a smirk.

Persona 5: Maruki the Councillor REVERSED

Some part of me wishes for Maruki's reality. A world where pain does not exist, but then again, can we truly value the things we never fear of losing? Food for thought.

Someone on Deviant Art made me think of the fact that Maruki IS technically a Palace Ruler & since I added so much of Royal into the Minor Arcana, it felt wrong not to include him. I might revisit this later, but I like this so far. (Maybe I'll make those veins/tubes thicker if I do edit this & though it is an edit, maybe I'll fix up the posture too. We'll see later when it's time for quality control.) I'll be working on convention merch in the next 2 weeks for #animeottawa so I'll be dropping some new stuff as I finish them.

🛸Seven of Swords

Tarot de Marseilles inspiration next for comparison. All the Sword suits will be themed to 🛸Okumura's Palace🛸.

The 7 of swords, as a theme, seemed obvious to me. Okumura's biggest scandal was the mistreatment of his employees, after all. It was rumored that he was working them to death, but it seemed that there were no apparent consequences (legally) to his actions. The robot is being pierced by the sword held by Okumura, but we cannot see his face or body, implying how he hides behind his deliberate actions. As this happens, we see an arrow of profits only going up. The stars fall to the sides, just missing the worker robot's grasp.

The last of the 9 cards of this deck is the monster form of King Kamoshida. The selfishness of this character in its purest form! His indulgence in his power is a perfect fit for this card in both negative and positive aspects.

🪙 The Queen of Pentacles

All the Pentacle suits will be themed to Kaneshiro''s Palace

I know that Kaneshiro's Pentacles will be the toughest suit to make since there is so few characters and the story of his past is VERY lightly sprinkled in during his palace run. But luckily, we have a Queen that can serve this suit. Although she has no official name, the "Gaudy Woman", that hangs out with Kaneshiro in the club is the perfect Reverse Queen.

🗡🛸 9 Of Swords

The 9 of swords is the best suited to the ABSOLUTE STRESS that is the Okumura boss fight. One of the few cards in this suit that I was absolutely sure of! The layout as a bit tough since Okumura didn't have a monster form but I think the EXEC Manager encapsulates the other bots well, especially since he's the only unique bot in this fight. He is so massive though (and is holding the 9th sword!). I didn't want him hiding too much of the sword hilts behind him so we can at least see those are swords but with Okumura himself looming over it, I think the pressure feels good since robots can't make facial expressions.

I gotta be happy with it though… because I flattened all the layers by accident.
