Bapteme de Feu by Serge Lutens (2016). ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ✍︎ From the master of perfumery @sergelutens is this artistic masterpiece that is undeniably unique and eccentric yet so enjoyable and elegant. Uncle Serge has always dazzled the world with his unconventional creations and Bapteme de Feu (baptism of/by fire) is no different. ◎ BdF apparently takes its inspiration from combat and this is clearly obvious from the blood red juice. Yet the addition of gingerbread in this unusual composition evokes a different feeling, perhaps one of Christmas. This duality is perhaps why this fragrance is considered polarizing. ◎ It opens with a burnt orange peel accord that is juicy yet smoky. The spices and gingerbread note kick in not long after creating a somewhat spicy gourmand accord. The dry down continues this mysterious journey with animalic notes coming to the fore in a beautiful yet sensual way. Castoreum believe it or not rounds up this expression of art closing out this story with a big bang as one with expect from a fragrance that evokes the spirit of either the holidays or a shooting range or perhaps both in my case. Notes ☞︎︎︎ Burnt Mandarin Peel, Cloves, Gingerbread, Cinnamon and Castoreum ◎ As you would expect from a composition like this, performance is nuclear on skin with great longevity and above average projection. ❤︎ Can you tell that I love this one?
