Chapter Five! Original the Character and Baraka! (Or Guy and Baraka, for those following crowd sourced original Mortal Kombat characters) (Who the heck is Guy?)
(Chapter One: SubScorp) (Chapter Two: Kotile) (Chapter Three: Kenmac) (Chapter Four: Taneena)
“...then in the middle of the bouquet was a red rose with an amethyst ring inside! And she wrote 'Prom?' on the petals! And she even got down on one knee to put the ring on my finger!” Mileena excitedly recounted how Tanya had asked her to prom to Baraka as they ate lunch.
“Sounds nice,” Baraka said. He didn't really have much of a head for romance.
“Yeah...” Mileena gave a dreamy sigh. “Has Guy asked you to prom yet?”
Baraka took a bite of his roast beef sandwich. “No.”
“Have you asked him?”
“No.”
“Well, you two are going, right?”
“I dunno.”
Mileena frowned and finished eating her chicken leg. “Are you two having problems?”
“No.” Baraka jammed the straw into his juice box.
Mileena raised on eye brow. “Look, your relationship with Guy has been weird since you first met- you both got way too intense about that flour-baby in Health class- but if you're having problems, you need to tell me so I can break his legs!”
“Mileena! We're fine!” Baraka snapped. He then sighed and repeated more calmly, “We're fine,” before busying himself with his juice box.
“Whatever,” Mileena huffed.
The bell rang signifying that lunch was over and class would be starting soon. Baraka quickly downed the rest of his juice box as he collected his and Mileena's trash and threw it away. He and Mileena walked silently through the hall until they had to split up to get to their respective classes.
“See you later, sad sack!” Mileena waved as she walked off to her classroom.
Baraka rolled his eyes and walked to class.
The truth was, Baraka was hoping Guy would ask him, but he hadn't. At the same time, Baraka hadn't really dropped any hints about wanting to go, so maybe it was his fault? And he could just as easily ask Guy out himself, but... He wanted to be the one asked out. Guy had taken the lead in this relationship so far, so he had to keep doing it! Alright, that was silly, but it didn't matter.
The final bell rang and Baraka gathered his belongings at his locker. He knew Guy would be by shortly to walk him home. He didn't understand why Guy insisted on doing this. Though Baraka lived close to the school, Guy didn't. But, he insisted that the exercise was good for him and he loved spending the extra time with Baraka.
“Hey!” Guy called cheerfully as he approached.
Baraka zipped his backpack closed and slung it over his shoulder. “Hey.”
Guy tilted his head to the side. “Are you alright?”
“'M fine,” Baraka muttered, “Let's go.”
Guy smiled as they left the school together. He tried to ask Baraka about his day as they walked, but Baraka seemed distracted and only gave short answers. Guy decided to talk about his day instead, but it didn't seem that Baraka was listening.
They finally got to the driveway of Baraka's house. The sounds of things crashing inside signified to Baraka that his younger triplet brothers were home and that there was no need to rush in.
“Hey, Baraka?” Guy asked, looking a little nervous.
“Yeah?”
“Want to go to prom with me? It's not big deal if you're not interested, though,” Guy smiled.
Baraka froze. Was that it? That was the promposal he had been waiting for?
No! That was crap!
Baraka curled his fingers into fists, he looked at the grass and frowned. “If you're going to ask... you have to ask properly...”
Guy practically beamed. He pulled Baraka into a deep kiss. “Baraka, my love, will you go to prom with me?”
Baraka tugged Guy's jacket to pull him into a quick, though angry, kiss. “I guess.” (Chapter Six: Sonmei) (Chapter Seven: Strykabal) (Chapter Eight: EarthCage) (Chapter Nine: Noobvik) (Chapter Ten: Jatana)
