Sousuke is Rin's close friend while he was still in Sano's swim club in elementary. Apparently they were pretty close and Sousuke knows and understands Rin a lot kinda like Makoto/Haru dynamic maybe? (and if I remember correctly, it irritates him a bit?).

So yeah, he was not mentioned much in High Speed! (i guess)
