Barbello art piece, tried underpainting for the first time
sometimes a family is you, your wife the queen of death, your other wife the thief cartographer, two adopted street urchins, and a dog who once belonged to hieron, himself
Concept sketch of Barbello from Demon Battles. Known as "The Womb of Creation" , she's the mother of Yeshua, Yaldaboth, and Saklas.
Realized the only drawing I have of all three bothers is them as children and one of Yaldaboth and Yeshua. Need to change that.
Finally got main but of lore down for the new Demon Battles series. Was inspired by gnosticism:
In the beginning there was Barbello, the “womb of creation”, goddess of all the earth. Barbello had three sons, Yeshua, Yaldabaoth, and Saklas. Yeshua, she granted dominion over the heavens with her, while Yaldabaoth, dominion over the earth with Saklas at his side.
One day Barbello proposes with her sons creating a new being to inhabit the earth, beings that were made in their own image and had more self awareness than the animals that already inhabited the earth. Yaldabaoth pleaded against it, afraid these creatures would taint his beautiful earth, but his mother ignored him. This lead to Yaldabaoth, with the help of the angels at his command and his brother Saklas, staging a coup, one that failed miserably. Barbello banned her two youngest sons and their followers from heaven.
Yaldabaoth's crash into earth cause major damage to the planet (like if an asteroid hit it), causing her to have to rebuild earth once again. But without Yaldabaoth's assistance, it wasn't quiet the same. While he dwelled in the depths of the earth, he wouldn't allow it to be. Those humans weren't deserving of his perfect world.
Yaldabaoth sewed the seeds of corruption where ever he can. He is the god of the Old Testament, responsible for all the violence, judgment, and war. Him and his followers thrived off of the worst of humanity. Seeing how her middle child was corrupting the new world she built, she sent Yeshua, a god of peace and hope who had a love for his mother's creation, to fix the damage his brothers caused. Thus, strengthening the sibling rivalry between Yaldabaoth and Yeshua.
On earth, there are some humans that are more in tune with the spiritual realm that others. Yeshua tries to recruit them to use their abilities for good, while Yaldabaoth tries to get them on his side with promises of power and desires. Then there are some humans that do have the power, but chose to ignore the spiritual battle around them. After all, why get involved in the affairs of the gods?
Left to right: Barbello, Yeshua, Yaldabaoth, and Saklas.

Previous Chapter: Six Questions About the Soul
Among the ancient Gnostic manuscripts rediscovered in modern times, the Secret Book of John is one of the most important. It a sacred reservoir of Gnostic myth and revelation. It breathes with the life of vision that vitalized early Christianity, a life suppressed and then largely forgotten in later ages. A modern reading grants fundamental insights…
