1942 - Service Raincoats

With many men in Britain serving in the War, the production of Sevice Raincoats was popular, as staying warm and dry was even more important. Being described as 'blizzardproof' these coats did exactly that.

1939 - The War

In 1939, conscription played its part in the Barbour family as Duncan Barbour was called to service. Duncan's father Malcolm, who was Chairman of the business, and Duncan's wife Nancy took over the running of the business.

1932 - The Beacon Thornproof range.

A cut out from the Barbour 1932 catalogue showing the Beacon Thornproof range.  These coats were some of the most popular Barbour coats of this period, particularly due to their resilient strength against the elements, and hard wearing thornproof wax fabric.  The coats and accessories are very fitting of the tag-line 'An indispensable coat for the out-door man.'
