I doodled some better pics of Mhurren! (Look at that cutie. ✨✨)
So anyway, here's his story in our D&D campaign so far:
The bastard son of a human prostitute, Mhurren left home with his banjo as a young man to pursue a career in entertainment but soon learned that it's hard to make a living as an artist. Thus he finds himself on a quest with some people he met at the Groggy Bass tavern to retrieve a lost artifact - the space stone - and return it to its rightful owner.
In a ruined manor, he acquires an old songbook (which he'll later have rebound in leather made from the skin of a felled gnoll enemy), befriends a rat whom he calls Banjo, and finds in a desk in the manor's library a deed to the land signed in Orcish. (His friend Tarkon is currently in possession of the deed.)
When they get back to camp, a mysterious man named Vigil sells him a set of banjo picks that somehow perfectly match his instrument, which was a family heirloom, and unlock its full magical potential. (He deduces that these are the original picks that go to the banjo, which was apparently enchanted all along without his family's knowledge. They can also be used as a weapon that deals 1d4 slashing damage.)
