Ixitxachitl are such a rarely used creature, despite their depth of lore. You have sentient manta rays, and some of them are vampires! Then there’s a related species that lives underground (the ixzan). They have a religious schism between clerics of the manta god and worshippers of Demogorgon! They practice eugenics, so you can tell they’re classic villain material.

Campaign Idea: These demon rays are preparing a terrible unholy ritual, which will begin draining life from the ocean and all its creatures into their leader Ok’tixetl. PCs become involved as abyssal whirlpools and necrotic sea monsters cause havoc for the island nation they call home! They must stop the ixitxachitl from breaking three celestial warding beacons, or the vampiric leader will become an avatar of Demogorgon (to say nothing of the ecological devastation wrought by the ongoing ritual)!

He's my friend pc in the campaign we're playing, he used to be an Aaarakocra and recently found out his mother is actually one of the moon goddesses (we have 3 moons in our campaign and the two smaller ones are Selunes daughters, his mom is one of them).

He however got trapped in the shadowfell for a year and to get out made a deal with Shar to rip everything that was his fathers away from him so his body basically morphed and feathers fell and this is how he looks like now.

Hes going trough it and we're in his arc currently still, pray for my boy for the player and dm are evil.

Hes also a wacky multiclass of ranger druid and rogue. We just got to level 11 and hes a fucking canon we did some fights amongs ourselves one time to practice and goddamn hes horrifying.

So one of my main complaints about D&D's design philosophy is that there are 13 different Damage Types, and yet how they affect combat is almost nonexistent. 13 whole damage types to choose from and so so so few monsters actually utilize damage resistances and vulnerabilities, which makes your character's chosen preferred damage type feel like mild set dressing at first instead of an interesting way of combining narrative and game mechanics, unless you like poison damage, which in that case it's like the game designers telling you that you can just go fuck yourself, cause it's the most common type resistance by far. SO! To fix this and give combat an added layer of depth, when I stat a monster for my game, I give it Pokemon types in my head, and then assign them damage vulnerabilities, immunities and resistances based off of this mapping of the 18 Pokemon types to the 13 D&D Damage Types I made.

So lets say I have a creature the Rock/Water attributes based off of Drednaw. It will resist resist Force, Fire, Cold, and Poison damage, while being Vulnerable to Lighting, Slashing, and Bludgeoning damage. It will *also* be Vulnerable to Thunder, because creatures made of stone in D&D often are, and Thunder damage is closest to Sound Based moves in Pokemon, which are most often Normal type moves.
