Anyway, here's my preview:
Another day, another assignment completed.
Bardock was only too glad to have it over with. He didn’t like long missions. At least he was back home where he could drink and sleep off his arduous week-long assignment.
However, once he got home and had some liquor, he felt a bit better as he searched for food to stuff his face with...only to be confronted with an empty cabinet.
He’d forgotten to restock before he went on assignment.
“Dammit!” he growled, running a hand down his face. He set down the bottle of liquor that he held, irritated that he now had to scrounge up enough money to buy some meat.
Cursing himself in Saiyan and Common, Bardock dug around for his money bag, wondering where on earth he had left it.
Upon finally finding it, he grabbed enough money to buy food to last him the entire day or so until his next assignment. To locate it quicker next time, Bardock tossed the bag on the ground beside his bed.
With that done, he stomped out of his house, slamming the door behind him.
He walked around town, struggling to remember where the butcher was after a long assignment.
Eventually, he found it, walked in, and promptly forgot why he was so mad.
The Saiyan behind the counter was the cutest, tiniest thing he’d ever seen. She looked like she’d never seen a battle in her life. And she had the warmest smile he’d seen in a long time.
Then...she noticed him, turning that damn smile on him. “Welcome! What can I help you with, sir?” she asked.
Bardock cleared his throat, acting like he’d only been looking at the meat. “That beast right there.”
It was a good-sized creature that should last him as long as he needed.
The woman seemed surprised. "Oh, um...alright. You got the money for it?” she asked. Bardock nodded, holding out the amount he’d brought with him.
She counted it, pulled out a large sack heavy with money, removed a little change, and handed it to him. “Did you want me to cut the meat real quick for you?” she asked.
Bardock shook his head.
“No need. I got a butchering site at my place.” he replied, wondering why he was suddenly worried if that was rude of him. However, that feeling eased when she just nodded.
“Right. Um, here’s the meat. Don’t eat it all in one go.” she teased, giggling at herself a little.
Why did Bardock’s heart skip a beat? He needed sleep, he figured, so he chuckled, slung the beast over his shoulder, and exited the shop. Damn overtired body, reacting weirdly to things.
