Ballgown published in Observateur des Modes, 1822, with a hairstyle by Monsieur Urbin Penlier, Paris. Published by Aaron Martinet.
In the space of about 10 minutes I went from "lmao she's wearing a Doctor Who scarf" to being deeply fascinated with the textile of the scarf: écharpe en barege cachemire. Scarf in cashmere barege, with barege being "a semi-transparent, open-mesh fabric of silk and wool, the former thrown up on the surface. Sometimes of all wool." It could also be printed, or made with jute, although both of these are later 19th century developments (Valerie Cumming, The Dictionary of Fashion History).
The gown and hair both have ibis plumes (plumes d'ibis) and grapes (raisins)—I assume yes real ibis plumes, no not real grapes. The sleeves look suspiciously huge, for being so early in the 1820s; I blame the Bourbon Restoration for the whole get-up.
