BARNYARD CHICKS 2 Silver Pencilled Rock x Silkie Cross?
I bought a bunch of chicks from a farmer in the high desert of California. Cleanest, neatest farm I’ve ever been to. The farmer, Joe, sold me his barnyard mix chicks. He had birds in pens by breed, and some milliong around the yard. There were two feather legged roosters that I saw - a Buff Cochin and a Light Brahma. The rest of the roosters were clean legged. As far as hens, only the Salmon Faverolles have feathered legs, the rest were - Easter Eggers, Red laced blue Wyandottes, Gold laced Wyandottes, Silver Pencilled Rocks, clean-legged Cuckoo Marans. I may not have seen all of the birds, but I’m trying to figure this out - nearly HALF the chicks have grown these modified head crests, white skin and feathered feet. The top bird here is a Pencilled Rock cross with feathered feet and yellow skin, and the bottom looks like it could be an Easter Egger with feathered feet, and a head crest, maybe Silkie? None of the breeds Joe mentioned have crests. I didn’t see any Polish birds on the property - it’s a big place I could have missed them but none of the chicks had the typical Polish extra head bump, so I’m wondering if these might be a Silkie cross of some kind? Somewhere they are getting crests and feathered feet. There are several that have the gentle faces of the lower bird.
