Some say that the Barril Beach is not only the best beach in the Algarve, but also one of the best in Europe (I may not agree with that, but some will certainly do). Three things (represented by three photos) make this a very special place: the beach train (the uses the same narrow railway that, until 1965, was used by the tuna fishermen), the Cemetery of Anchors and the beach itself.
By the way, the original name of this beach was “Praia dos Três irmãos” - “Three Brothers Beach”, in English.
Although I usually mention THE train to the Barril Beach, the truth is that there is not just one, but three trains: Number 1 (still in the Ria Formosa station, just outside the bridge to Pedras d'el Rei), Number 2 (parked near the shed) and the "spare train", the Number 3 (currently, partly disassembled).
Don't attach yourself to your memories - let them flow, let them fly and be free of them. Nostalgia is the poison that kills our well-being.
The last train of the day on its way to pick the last vacationers of the day that still remain in the Barril Beach. Those who lose the last train, shall be forced to walk (the distance is quite small... unless you are on vacations).
The good old train to the Barril Beach leaving the station. During the Winter, it hard carry anyone, even on sunny days; in August... well, you can imagine how it is like, can't you?
February in Tavira. It should be raining, it should be cold, but this is Tavira and the train is taking people to the beach - in February.
The almost legendary train to the Barril Beach, in Tavira Island. Actually, there isn't just one train, but three - but you never see more than two circulating at the same time, because the third one (that never received a number) is just the spare train. The one in the photo is the number 2.
