Waterfall into the sea at Barril Beach, Ericeira, Portugal
The Algarve coast is a sweet spot. Technically, it belongs to the Atlantic world, but the Mediterranean flair (including the warm and calm waters) is undeniable. Theoretically, it's the best of both worlds... well, it should be, but then, people came and ruined everything (as usual).
The beach. I needed it, but I can’t have it, for it is full of tourists. But, in September, I shall be there again. Wake me up when September starts.
The Tavira Island, where I should have been happy. Maybe in some other life.
I know some of you are fascinated by this place: The Anchors Cemetery, in the Barril Beach. And I understand it, I’ve been there many, many times and I still find it fascinating.
The Barril Beach. Sometimes, it almost looks like one of the best places in the World. Don’t get fooled: it is not, not even close.
Alone in the beach. But I felt good.
Some say that the Barril Beach is not only the best beach in the Algarve, but also one of the best in Europe (I may not agree with that, but some will certainly do). Three things (represented by three photos) make this a very special place: the beach train (the uses the same narrow railway that, until 1965, was used by the tuna fishermen), the Cemetery of Anchors and the beach itself.
By the way, the original name of this beach was “Praia dos Três irmãos” - “Three Brothers Beach”, in English.
