Check out my blog! I try to post at least once a week. Basically bunch of heartbreak residue, self-care/healing shit, pretty queer, teaching/writing stuff, and rando Chicanx childhood 80s nostalgia.
Hey there hey! Check out my blog. :)

Facebook posting and some truest truths
I was thinking that I probably should've posted this here, too. Especially given that it's mostly about tumblr. I posted this last week:
"For the longest time, probably since I've had Tumblr, I was hesitant and nervous about posting/writing what I really wanted for fear of what people would think. I held back worried what students, or colleagues, or family members would say. I thought they would judge me for what I shared/thought. But I learned the hard way this past year (after losing loved ones and shedding old baggage) that ultimately it does NOT matter what people say or think (they'll talk regardless of what you do or don't do). I will live my truth. And because I've been doing that for a few weeks now I've felt happier than ever. And things are falling into place and that's because I've learning to let go and live in the moment. (Getting off my existential soapbox now, bye)."
I can just add:
I don't hesitate over or apologize for posting anything here or on barriodysmorphiaspeaks I'm pretty proud of both blogs - especially given the fickle and subjective nature of social media and the avenues it allows us (mostly positive).
Interestingly enough I notice that I tend to lose "followers" when I post drag queen related material. It's not your bag, I get it. I just hope it's not because folks have such a narrow minded view of the (entertainment) world.
Around the new year I toyed around with the idea of breaking up my X-Files, drag queens, old Hollywood, literati, travel and cityspace loves into two or three various blogs before I came to my senses. Can we say time suck? It would be the suckiest suck that ever did suck and it already sucks lots of time (Simpsons reference, thank you). Ultimately, I can't break up what I like because they all make up who I am. I'm a messy multi-faceted fanatic of lots and lots. And I love that about me. And believe you me, I try not to take things personally and I don't take myself or the world that seriously (you just can't).
So thank you for taking the journey with me so far. Sorry for the double posting if you follow my other blog. If you don't, you should! :)
L.A. invisibility
Haven't forgotten about the "gentrification" blog post I promised. But you plan one thing and life has a way of slapping you upside the head making you change your course for a bit, I'm trying to navigate back. I'll be posting later today or early tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy my favorite passage from Ellison's Invisible Man. It's something that I personally clung to when I first moved to Silverlake and it applies to the gentrification of Los Angeles. It'll make more sense after I talk about it (I hope).
"I am invisible, understand, simply because people refuse to see me. Like the bodiless heads you see sometimes in circus side-shows, it is as though I have been surrounded by mirrors of hard, distorting glass. When they approach me they see only my surroundings, themselves, or figments of their imagination -- indeed, everything and anything except me." Invisible Man
