A revamping is...

coming soon. My blog intentions didn't entirely pan out in the direction I expected. When I came up with the concept of barrio dysmorphia it made more sense considering I was living in the Silverlake area of L.A. (a bastion of semi-moneyed luxury, gentrification, and artist/hipster/hippie/nerdy living which was completely removed from my childhood barrio). At the time, I never thought that I was going to be invited to teach in Florence, Italy and I never expected to subsequently move to Eagle Rock (which I'm absolutely loving).

However the incongruous images I originally envisioned are still very much part of one's existence in Los Angeles - how could they not be? This city is in continual flux and fuss. I'm still going to be writing/talking/fragmenting about LA - but Hollywood has to factor into this because it IS L.A.. The collision of Hollywood, the film factory, and Hollywood, the place in L.A., is too rich and loaded to not write/'tumbl' about. The writing will be sparse and the images abundant.

My connection to Hollywood has always been familiar and foreign. I've been in love with the notion and products of Hollywood since childhood - you have to find comfort in books and films when you are not free to roam in your own neighborhood. But a cloistered life is not a bad life - it's one of dreams and myth making and fantasy weaving.

Hence, expect Los Angeles/Hollywood (the image, the place, and its products) to live on my page. But Europe is going to creep in since it's leeched its way into my veins.

Really, I just wanted to say I'm going to be updating my "about" section soon. I've just been swamped and trying to claw my way out from all this grading business.
