if they weren’t dusted, what did they get up to in those five years, be as in depth as you want, the more the better: In the five years the dust affected, Bart struggled a lot. He lost friends in the snap, and he knew he had to move on despite it. The world needed Impulse, but it didn’t mean that he couldn’t still grieve. How Bart handled his grief was pointedly ignoring it. He carried on with what he was doing before; acting as if nothing changed. It was hard, but he felt a responsibility to keep everyone smiling as much as he could. Everyone expected him to be the goofball, the comic relief, so he was.
are they aligned to any specific team/groups/etc and if so, how did they join and why if not, are they looking to join a team and if so, why: Not currently, although he does want to be on a team. He’d love to be apart of the Avengers, at least as an honorary member. Or a member of the science team. He misses working with people, and he wants to work with them again. Bart is highly social, he thrives on attention and being around others. Working by himself gets gloomy, he desperately wants to be on a team. He’s submitted his application basically everywhere. He just wants to be with others again.
where do they currently live/been living since the return snap: Bart lives in New York in a shitty apartment, as most New York apartments are, but he’s happy. He loves the vibe of the city, and he can be closer to a lot of his friends than when he was in Central City.
what have they been doing personally and/or professionally since the return snap: Bart does hero work as Impulse whenever he can, including patrolling both Central AND New York due to his speed. He takes after Wally in that he wants to help and rehabilitate criminals rather than just beating the shit out of them and leaving them in the ICU. He also works a day job as a barista, turns out he is really good at zipping around and getting orders ready.
ramble a bit about them, their past, what their current motivations are, go as in depth as you like. again, the more the better:
Bart Allen was born in the 30th century to Meloni Thawne and Don Allen. He was kept in a virtual reality landscape due to his rapid aging, they didn’t want him to suffer any mental problems due to it. He was born with full super speed, something very unusual for speedsters. Due to the danger he posed himself and the virtual reality landscape not working, he was taken to the past where he met Wally West, and was challenged to a race that made his rapid aging stop.
Now in the present, since Bart spent so much of his time in a virtual reality simulator he was very naive and impulsive, getting into trouble and causing problems left and right. He was very excitable, and was always exploring the world around him. This put him at odds with Wally, who couldn’t handle him and gave up on him, giving him to Max Mercury. He was eventually dubbed Impulse by Batman, as an insult. Although he decided to reclaim it for himself.
Things were going well, however once again a mentor figure disappeared and he was placed with a new one, Jay Garrick. People continuously put pressure on Bart, reminding him of his legacy as the descendant of The Flash and the Tornado Twins alike. Despite his goofball and impulsive nature that he was pigeonholed into because of his personality and being a speedster, Bart has taken on numerous intellectual projects. Such as reading every single book in the library and doing science experiments of his own.
Overall, a lot of Bart’s past involves people underestimating him, insulting him, passing him around like a hot potato, and Bart proving them wrong and displaying that he’s more than his sense of humor or hyperactive nature. That he’s not some child.
one plot idea, big or small, you’d like to do with them or connection/dynamic to explore: I’d love to do some angst with Bart being seen as the comedic relief and the pressure he’s under to always make people smile, and his frustrations with his intelligence not being recognized.
