I’ve been rereading the Bartimaeus series (up to Ptolemy’s gate so far bc I needed copium after that ending) as part of a general “do my fav childhood books still hold up now” phase

And while I was definitely a lowkey BartNat shipper when I first read the series in middle school, I am now older and wiser and have realized the true pairing is….. Bart x Nat x Kitty (slightly toxic) situationship polycule!

I was watching philip glass’ opera Akhenaton and there’s this line from one of the ancient burial poems that I really love. Other than being just a really beautiful sentiment, it also reminded me of the Bartimaeus sequence, esp the Bart/Ptolemy relationship. It’s this:

“call upon my name unto eternity, and it shall never fail.”

I know it's popular to ship Nathaniel and Kitty but I think we need to accept in our hearts: Nathaniel would not have been any good at kissing. That guy has zero experience and is canonically awkward around girls. TBH Kitty had no time for dating either. First kiss would have been a disaster, especially if Bartimaeus were present (he would be calling them disgusing and making gagging gestures in the background)

After I read Lockwood & Co., I am considering reading The Bartimaeus Sequence. If anybody has read it, is it worth trying?

Currently rereading The Amulet of Samarkand. And where is my Bartimaeus TV show adaptation. Where is it. They ran out of 80s and even 90s fantasy to reboot and entered the 2000s but someone NO ONE is adapting this? How??

So I see people talking about the Bartimaeus group in Hogwarts and what house they'd be in and I like this, but I'll raise you one better.

In Nathaniel's first year, he goes into the forbidden section of the library, like you do, and discovers a so old book that nobody even remembers it exists. It's about summon spirits, supposedly, so of course Nate has to try it out and poof, summons Bartimaeus.

Bart likes screwing with all the other students, especially Nate, that he decides to stick around. None of the teachers recognise him, but he's here so he must be unrolled, so none question him because they don't want to look like they forgot a student.

Dumbledore knows exactly what's going on and just let's it happen. Bart's not hurting anyone after all.

Kitty eventually figures it out and the three become frienemies mostly out of necessities to keep Bart's identify a secret because Kitty actually kind of likes Bart and Nat doesn't want to get in trouble for going into the forbidden part of the library.
